Today is National Cancer Survivors Day. Today We Celebrate Life After Cancer.

Sunday, June 02, 2019

2019 NCSD logoToday – June 2, 2019 – marks the 32nd annual National Cancer Survivors Day®. Welcome to the celebration! Tens of thousands of people in hundreds of communities across the globe are joining you in celebrating life after cancer.

Today, on National Cancer Survivors Day® 2019, we come together – as cancer survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, family members, and friends – to champion all people who are living with a history of cancer and to bring attention to the ongoing challenges they face.

We have entered a new era in cancer survivorship, as medical advances are allowing cancer survivors to live longer, healthier lives than ever before. However, we must not forget that despite this progress a cancer diagnosis can leave a host of problems in its wake.

Today is a day to stand alongside the cancer survivors in our community and make a commitment to lessening the burden of cancer survivorship. It is a day to advocate for more resources, research, and legislation to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors.

But, most importantly, today is a celebration of life.

Today, we celebrate the personal milestones, no matter how small. We celebrate the research initiatives, the medical breakthroughs, and the legislative victories. We celebrate the researchers, the advocates, the doctors, the nurses, the caregivers, the survivors. Today, we celebrate life. Because life after cancer is worth the celebration.

Who is a cancer survivor?

The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation defines a survivor as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. National Cancer Survivors Day® offers your community an opportunity to show that it has a valuable and vital cancer survivor population, as well as to make a commitment to improving the lives of cancer survivors.

Let’s raise awareness of the challenges of cancer survivorship.

More people than ever are surviving cancer. However, despite their growing numbers, cancer survivors often must contend with rapidly rising drug costs, inadequate insurance coverage, difficulty finding or keeping employment, and ongoing physical, psychological, and financial struggles.

We want to send the message that life after cancer is something worth celebrating. And a better quality of life for ALL cancer survivors is worth fighting for. Help spread the message by sharing a post like this one to your social media sites:
