What Makes a Great National Cancer Survivors Day Speaker?

Monday, September 28, 2015

We recently asked cancer survivors this question on our Facebook page. Here’s what they had to say:

• Empathy. Sympathy. Experience as a survivor. Triumph. Gusto. – Melanie

• A fellow cancer survivor. That is to say, a person who is on intimate terms with the Cancer Experience. A person who reaches out to others, not with the intention to lecture, but with gentle compassion. Someone who embodies hopefulness and demonstrates an uplifting optimism. – Gonzalo

• Authenticity. – Linda

• Sharing an inspiring story, reinforcing the need for everyone to pay attention to their bodies and listen to that little voice and get checked. – Dianne

• Humor. – Carol

Do You Know Someone Who Would Make a Great Survivors Day Speaker?

We are searching for local, national, and international keynote speakers who would make excellent additions to the NCSD Speakers Bureau Roster. Can you help?

If you know someone who would make a great National Cancer Survivors Day® keynote speaker, encourage them to visit ncsd.org/speakers to download an application form. If that person is you, what are you waiting for? Send us your application! The deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 30.

speakerJoining the NCSD Speakers Bureau Roster is a great way for motivational speakers to connect with the cancer community. The online Roster will be provided free of charge to cancer-related organizations, support groups, hospitals, and treatment centers who are hosting NCSD events in their communities on Sunday, June 5, 2016. These organizations use the Roster to book motivational and keynote speakers for their local NCSD celebrations, as well as other cancer-related events held throughout the year. There is no charge to be included.
