How to Plan a National Cancer Survivors Day® Celebration – 5 Simple Steps

Monday, February 02, 2015

clipboardOn Sunday, June 7 – National Cancer Survivors Day® – thousands of people will gather in hundreds of communities across the globe to honor cancer survivors and to raise awareness about the challenges cancer survivors face.

If you want to bring National Cancer Survivors Day® to your city, now is the time to start planning. Just follow these 5 steps to plan and promote your NCSD celebration:

Step 1: Register Your Event

Register your NCSD event online at ncsd.org/register to gain access to the exclusive NCSD Speakers Bureau Roster (which contains contact information for nationally recognized celebrities and keynote speakers) and other valuable resources. By registering, you will also be eligible to order free copies of Coping® with Cancer magazine to distribute at your event.

Registration is free and easy, but you must register your event each year in order to use the copyrighted National Cancer Survivors Day® name and logo.

Step 2: Pick a Location

While many NCSD events are held at hospitals and cancer centers, don’t be afraid to get creative with your location. Check out local parks, sports venues, hotel ballrooms, conference centers, churches, and synagogues. You can set the stage with official NCSD-logo balloons, banners, and table runners – available to order from the NCSD Merchandise Catalog.

Step 3: Choose a Theme

Planning your event around a central theme is a great way to add interest and create excitement about your celebration. Your theme can be anything you want it to be. Check out our “themespiration” page for some fresh ideas.

Step 4: Order Souvenirs, Keepsakes, and T-shirts

When cancer survivors leave your event, give them something to remember it by with official NCSD souvenirs and keepsakes, available to order from the NCSD Merchandise Catalog. Also, be sure to order NCSD 2015 t-shirts for the survivors attending your event. Featuring our trademark survivor celebrating life – a symbol of triumph for the millions of people living with and beyond cancer – the NCSD 2015 t-shirt comes in two different styles. The deadline to order is April 1.

Step 5: Promote Your Event

The NCSD website, ncsd.org, has the resources and tools you need to get the word out about your National Cancer Survivors Day® event. You can even download customizable press releases to send to local media and a sample proclamation for the mayor to declare Sunday, June 7, 2015, National Cancer Survivors Day in your city.
