The CRT Scholarship/Loan Program

The CRT scholarship/loan program supports graduate students in the master's degree program in special education with an add-on license in elementary, middle or secondary education. Students receive funds to cover tuition, fees, books, and professional development. Students repay the scholarship/loan by working in special education two years for every year (21 hours) that is funded.

Focus of the Grant

The CRT program has two primary goals:

1. Prepare culturally responsive teachers who can facilitate learning for students from diverse cultural communities;

All participants will complete a 175 hour internship working in a community different than their own .

2. Prepare special education teachers at the graduate level who are dually licensed or highly qualified to teach in regular education classes.

All participants will earn a dual license or highly qualified status to teach in regular education.

NC Licenses Earned by CRT Scholars

•  Initial License in General Curriculum, Special Education

•  Advanced License in one of the following specialty areas:

Behavioral Emotional Disabilities

Learning Disabilities

Mental Disabilities

Visual Impairment

•  Add-on license in one of the following:

Elementary Education

Middle Grades

Secondary Content Areas

Classes Offered at Accessible Times

The program can be completed on a part-time or full time basis. Classes are offered at 4:00 and 7:00. Some classes are offered on-line.
