NCSD GOALS

Mission Statement

The National Council for Support of Disability Issues shall help advance public attitudes, awareness, respect, consideration and advance the success of people with all types of disabilities.

Our Goals

• Provide a means for sharing information, resources, ideas and support between people with all types of disabilities.

• Encourage and support people with disabilities to reach economic independence through opportunities in education, information and employment.

• Provide information on current legislative issues that affect civil rights, accessibility and the safety of people with disabilities.

• Encourage voting for whatever candidate supports their own interests.

• Advance the attitudes, consideration, respect and awareness of the general public toward people with all disabilities, by demonstrating their abilities, talents, skills and capability.

• Increase self-esteem and strive for perfection in their own manner within their disability.

• Increase enjoyment of life through sports, recreation and social interaction.

 

Our Plan

  1. Sharing Information  

NCSD provides a website, which includes a newsletter, stories, articles newsgroup, forum.

2. Encourage and Support Economic Independence

NCSD publishes members academic accomplishments and resumes. NCSD pursues special projects to promote employment and works in cooperation with other non-profits. NCSD provides information on employment and telecommuting. NCSD provides People Resources that offers free online classes, employment opportunities and resume posting. This project is in continuous development and expansion. NCSD provides scholarship information and provides it's own scholarships when funds are available.  

3. Current Issues

NCSD informs members about current issues that affect the disabled community through it's newsletter and newsgroup.  NCSD asks what the members concerns are and fosters self-advocacy by encouraging members to form their own Disability Club at their school and promotes members interaction with government officials when they have an issue that they need to express that is important to them.

4. Encourage Voting

NCSD encourages informed voting by knowing what each candidates position is on issues through links in the newsletter.

5. Advance the General Publics Awareness and Attitude

NCSD demonstrates members' abilities and accomplishments on the website.  NCSD provides "The Able Crew" project offered to the public to advance the attitudes and awareness towards people with all disabilities. The Able Crew is about a group of young friends who have different disabilities. They have adventures and find out what wonderful abilities and skills that they have. They rescue pets and friends and become heroes. NCSD is currently producing a series of chapter books for the elementary age child. They will be exiting reading for all children, disabled or not.

6. Create Positive Self Esteem

NCSD provides a way for members to demonstrate their abilities and accomplishments on the website. NCSD provides good role models.   "The Able Crew" project will also bolster self-esteem by demonstrating the abilities of people with disabilities.

7. Promotes Fun, Recreation and Socializing

NCSD provides information and articles on sports, travel, meeting new people, theater and organizing a school club.
